How to Keep Healthy Eyes Even When You're Old

How to Keep Healthy Eyes Even When You're Old

How to Keep Healthy Eyes Even When You're Old

1. Have a regular checkup

Regular checkups can detect age-related macular degeneration early. Vision loss occurs very slowly, so it is difficult to know until it reaches the stage of blindness.

Therefore, when you turn 40, you should have a comprehensive eye examination. If there is no problem, it is good to have a checkup every two years.

2. Eat food that is good for your eyes

Fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C are good. Studies have shown that vitamin C lowers the risk of cataracts. A 10-year continuous intake of vitamin C lowers the risk of cataracts by 57 percent.

Carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin protect the retina. Dark green vegetables like kale contain a lot of these components, which have been shown to lower the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

Olive oil is also a food that lowers the risk of macular degeneration. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids have the effect of improving the symptoms of eye diseases, which are associated with eye surface inflammation and dry eyes.

3. Keep out the sun

If you prepare a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses on a sunny day, blocking invisible ultraviolet rays can lower the risk of cataracts.

Sunglasses also block the sun's visible light, which is the main cause of macular degeneration, which causes vision loss by damaging the retina.

4. Keep exercising

Increasing your heart rate rewards your eye health. Studies have shown that people who run 10 km every day have a third lower risk of cataracts!

In another study, people who ran 4 km per day had a 54% lower risk of macular degeneration. Regular exercise can also prevent glaucoma.

Research has shown that riding a bike four times a week for 40 minutes at a gym for three months can bring the intraocular pressure down to its normal level. However, once we went back to our sedentary lifestyle, the intraocular pressure returned to its original state within three weeks. The answer is "steady" for anything.

5. Maintain a proper weight

This is to lower the risk of diabetes, which can lead to vision loss and blindness. Studies have shown that adult diabetics are 72 percent more likely to develop cataracts than those without diabetes, and are twice as likely to develop glaucoma.

6. Let your eyes rest regularly

When I work all day on my computer screen, I forget to blink and my eyes get tired by the time I get off work (me too...) Experts recommend adhering to the "20-20-20 rule".

If you looked at a screen such as a computer for about 20 minutes, you should stare 20 feet (about 6 meters) away for 20 seconds to relieve the tension in your eyes.

Some studies suggest that people around the world may be nearsighted by 2050 if the work continues to be done with close proximity to electronic equipment as it is now. Research has shown that increasing outdoor activities and reducing tasks that require close attention can reduce vision loss.

There are many things to love

There are many things to love

Cut through the chilly morning air

with a brisk step

I'm going through a precious day

I have relationships that ask how I'm doing

I also pray for all of them

I have to love today

With genuine appreciation, even the smallest things

You have to love your relationships

All the things in the world that I don't know

I think we should love each other

Even the things I hate

There are so many things to love

I didn't know that before

Broaden your horizons, open your chest

Get a heart-warming bowl

I'm going to be honest

Now, there's a lot to love

How can you not be happy if you knew

Believe in Myself – A Message from Jeon Seung-hwan

Believe in Myself – A Message from Jeon Seung-hwan

Believe in Myself

If there is someone
to whom I can show my life
just as it is, transparently and honestly,
that would be a truly happy life.

Even if misunderstood
by countless others,
if there's one person
who loves and cherishes me,
life would still be joyful.

If there is someone
who offers a warm embrace
when I need a place to hide,
life would be peaceful.

We cannot be completely free
from the gaze of others.
Even if we try,
it is impossible to avoid misunderstanding entirely.

That’s why we should not strive
to be loved by everyone.

Just one person
who stands by us is enough
to give comfort.

But if you feel like
no one loves you,
then become that person
for yourself.

Look at yourself with warmth,
and say:
"I am a good person."
"I am a kind person."

No one understands you
better than yourself.

So don’t lie to yourself.
Speak honestly
to your own heart.

In this unclear, confusing world,
the one who can see you clearly—
is you.

Believe in that person.
Believe in yourself.
